Taking the Metro from the Airport to the City Centre

Direct connection with Line E (violet)

Since 2006, Metro Line E (violet) has connected Porto Airport directly with the city centre. Key stations along the route include Trindade, Bolhão and Campanhã.

The “Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro” metro station is located directly opposite the terminal and is clearly signposted.

Metro Line E – Timetable

The metro runs from the airport to the city centre at regular intervals every day:

Towards Trindade (city centre):

  • 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.: every 30 minutes
  • 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.: every 15 minutes
  • 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.: every 30 minutes

Towards Estádio do Dragão:

  • 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.: every 30 minutes
  • 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.: every 20 minutes
  • 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.: every 30 minutes

Travel time: approx. 30 minutes to Trindade.

Additional notes:

  • First departure from the airport: 6:06 
  • Last departure: 00:42 
  • The timetable applies daily, including weekends and public holidays.

One major advantage of the metro: travel times are reliable and not affected by traffic.

Line E – Stops & Current Timetable (2026)

Line E includes a total of 21 stations and offers connections to other metro lines (A, B, C, D, F).

For the journey from the airport to the city centre, you will need a Z4 ticket (4 zones):

Where can I buy metro tickets?

You can buy tickets at the ticket machines in metro stations.
First, you need an Andante Card, which is a rechargeable card. You can then load your your ticket onto this card.

Taking the bus from the airport to the city centre

Several STCP bus lines connect the airport with the city centre and various districts of Porto.

The bus company Resende also operates daily services from the airport to Guifões and São Gens.

Buses are a good alternative if the metro is not running or if your destination is not directly served by Line E.

Taxi from Porto Airport to the city centre

Taxis are available directly outside the terminal 24 hours a day. They offer a fast and comfortable way to reach any destination in Porto.

  • Night surcharge (21:00–6:00): +20%

Private shuttle: fixed prices and airport pickup

A pre-booked private shuttle takes you directly from the airport to your hotel or other accommodation. The driver will usually meet you in the arrivals area and can also assist you with your luggage if required.

The fare is fixed at the time of booking, so there are no additional costs if traffic is heavy or the journey takes longer than expected. This transfer option is particularly convenient for families, small groups, travellers with a lot of luggage or those arriving at the airport late in the evening.
